How to choose a car charger: wattage and ports
What is the difference between 18W, 30W and 60W car chargers, what does PD mean and how many ports do you need? A guide with 12 models and real prices on Dona.
A phone running a navigator on the road drains its battery fast, so you end up needing a charger in the car. The trouble is that two devices that look the same can work completely differently: one fills the phone in half an hour, the other cannot even stop the battery dropping while the navigator is on. The difference is in the wattage and the port type. The Dona catalogue has 12 car chargers, from 19,000 to 130,000 UZS.
Wattage: 18W, 30W or 60W#
The W in the name is the charger’s maximum power. In practice it means this:
| Wattage | What it is enough for |
|---|---|
| 18-20W | charging a phone slowly, holding the charge level with the navigator on |
| 30W | charging a phone fast, a tablet |
| 48-60W | two devices at once, or keeping a laptop topped up |
One important detail: the stated wattage is shared between the ports. On a 30W two-port model, two connected devices do not get 30W each. So if you charge a phone and a tablet at the same time, it makes sense to look at 48W or higher.
What PD and fast charging mean#
PD (Power Delivery) is the standard for fast charging over USB-C. When the phone, the charger and the cable all support it, the power goes up and charging gets noticeably faster. If the charger has PD but the cable is a basic one, the speed drops, and this happens a lot.
So start the choice from your device. If your phone has a USB-C socket, take a model with a USB-C port and PD support. For older phones and wireless earbuds a USB-A port is still needed, because many cables are of that type.
How many ports and which type#
In a car two devices usually charge: the driver’s phone and a passenger’s phone or earbuds. That makes a two-port model the most practical choice. The port type matters too:
- Two USB-C — both for new phones, the fastest option.
- USB-C and USB-A — one for a new device, one for an old one, the most common combination.
- One port — cheap and small, for one person only.

Small but important details#
Think about how far the charger sticks out of the socket. A long body gets knocked by your elbow again and again, and in the end the socket contact loosens. A short model that sits flush in the socket is more reliable in that sense.
Some models have a digital display that shows the voltage or the power. It is an extra, but it does not affect charging speed. A glowing ring helps you find the socket at night, but in the daytime it can catch your eye.

Wall chargers for home and work are in the chargers section, and how to choose the wattage is explained in detail in the phone charger guide. The article on the car phone holder is also useful for keeping the phone in view on the road.
Why this is easier to buy in a live stream#
In the box, car chargers all look the same, and this is exactly where a lot of money is wasted. In a live stream the seller picks the device up and you see the body length, the port layout and the printed wattage with your own eyes. You can type your phone model in the chat and ask “does this support fast charging for me?”. Some sellers plug the charger into a phone right there and show the power reading, which is stronger proof than the number in the description.
