Reviews and ratings: how to write one and why it matters
On Dona a review sits on the product page and helps other people choose. How to write a useful one, and what a review prize actually is.
A review is the cheapest and most trustworthy information in online retail. On a product page it sits beside the rating, and a new buyer reads it before deciding. This article explains how reviews work on Dona and how to write one that helps.
Where a review appears#
Every product page has a “Reviews” section holding the overall rating and a list of reviews, with “All reviews” opening the full set. The product row during a live stream also shows how many reviews there are.
If a product is new, it says “No reviews yet”. That is not a bad sign — nobody has written one yet. In that case it is better to ask the seller in chat.
You write a review once the product is in your hands. When the order arrives, the app invites you to leave one.
What a useful review looks like#
A review that says “good” or “bad” gives almost nothing. A review that helps another buyer usually covers:
- Size and fit — true to size, small or large. For clothes and shoes this is the most asked question.
- Colour and material — whether it matched the photo.
- Living with it — an impression after a week is worth more than one from day one.
- What you expected versus what came — the gap between the two.
- A photo — your own picture carries more weight than a catalogue shot.
Bad experiences should be written down too, but specifically: “the seam came apart on the second day” is more useful than “poor quality”.

What a review prize is#
Sellers have a tool called “Review prize”. A shop can offer an incentive to buyers who leave reviews, as a way of building them up.
One thing matters here: the prize is for the review, not for praise. A good shop wants honest reviews, because false praise comes back later as returns and complaints.
Why the rating exists#
The rating measures both the product and the shop. On the seller’s side it is watched closely: the shop health page carries service-quality figures, and reviews are part of them.
So a review is not just an opinion. It helps the next buyer and shows the seller exactly what needs fixing.
